Its Time To Replace Your Old Tank If:

• The time between fills is becoming shorter.
• You notice an increase in liquid nitrogen usage.
• Frost is forming around the neck area.
• Condensation is forming on the outside of the tank.
• The vacuum plug is missing or is loose in vacuum port.
• The tank has a sharp ping or a thud to it when tapped.
• The tank is 10 years or older.

How To Determine Tank Holding Time

For an empty tank containing no semen:

1. Weigh tank empty (EMPTY).
2. Fill tank with liquid nitrogen and let set 24 hours.
3. Weigh tank filled (FILLED).
4. Weigh tank after 4 weeks (4 WEEKS).
5. Calculate holding time;

{(Filled - Empty) / (Filled - 4 Weeks)} * 4 = Tank holding time in weeks

Example: Empty tank weighs 24 pounds. When filled the tank weighs 59 pounds. After four weeks the tank weighs 52 pounds.

{(59 - 24) / (59 - 52)} * 4 = 20 weeks holding time

For a tank containing semen, never allow liquid nitrogen level to drop below one inch in the tank before filling. Follow same procedure but actual holding time may be slightly longer.

This is only intended as a guide to estimate holding time. Actual holding time may vary depending upon how often tank is opened, how long tank is left open and if tank is exposed to a draft.
