Monitoring the efficacy of SOP C COW in reducing the development of environmental pathogens and its correlation with the somatic cell content in milk. On camparing the data on the microbial load in bedding with the somatic cells in milk - in 2004 (before SOP treatment) and in 2005 (with SOP C COW) - the results show a highly significant reduction of bacteria which is correlated to the decrease in the somatic cells.

Critical Groups
The critical groups are the pregnant heifers and cows at least two weeks before calving, the maternity and/or sick pens, fresh cows and milking cows until at least 30 days in milk. During the prenatal, delivery and postpartum periods, cows experience a significant drop in their immune systems and consequently are at a high risk of "environmental" infections. SOP treatment must include these "critical groups".

SOP products are made with calcium sulphate as a carrier agent which has undergone the SIRIO OPERATING PROCESS treatment.
