Producers Showed Their Spirit At Winter Get-Away (1/31/07)
Producers and their families from Wisconsin, Minnesota and Iowa attended the 2007 Young Producer Winter Get-Away sponsored by Accelerated Genetics on January 27-28 at the Chula Vista Theme Resort in Wisconsin Dells, WI. This years theme was ‘show your spirit for your favorite sports team’!
The producers attending took this sports theme pretty seriously and awards were presented to the Best Spirited! The winning family was the Wipperfurths of Dane, WI – Matt & Janine and their children Cadence and Natalie, and the second place family was the Prestruds of Prairie Farm, WI – Chad & Jennifer and their children Rachel, Ethan and Ashley. The winning individual was Dale Stangler of Watertown, WI and the second place individual was Jerry Gimler of Watertown, WI. Keeping with the sports theme, there was sports trivia for the producers to answer and winning each division was: Green Bay Packer Trivia – Karen Weltzien of Arcadia, WI; Basketball Trivia – Gary Depies of Adell, WI; Super Bowl Trivia – Mary Heck of Durand, WI; and Baseball Trivia – Roger Aldinger of Winona, MN.
The weekend also included some great educational sessions including a presentation and round table session about Hoof Care presented by Rick Trinko of Middleton, WI. On Sunday morning everyone started of the morning cheering on there favorite family with the Young Producer Family Feud.
Following that session producers and their families got the opportunity to learn about eating and snacking more healthy from presenters Sue Nagelkerk, Sauk County UW-Extension and Theresa Wimann, Adams County UW-Extension.
In addition, producers had the opportunity to network and learn from each other throughout the conference and have some fun away from the farm!
Innovative Producers Wanted for Leadership Conference! Accelerated Genetics next young producer event is the Leadership Conference on March 24-25, 2007 in Wisconsin Dells, WI. This event is for emerging young dairy and beef leaders to expand their horizons. We have a phenomenal line-up of speakers ~ Jolene Brown, Don Wick, and Tom Jadin, along with a great program. Producers can only attend this event once as the conference has a similar program from year to year. Registrations are still being accepted.
Summer Meltdown Date Set for June 23, 2007! Accelerated Genetics will host the Young Producer Summer Meltdown in Montfort, WI. This will include a farm tour of an dairy farm with a compost bedding pack, a speaker, at a nearby park and a tour of a local agricultural industry. To top it off this event is for the whole family.
Accelerated Genetics young producer program is open to producers in the membership area (Wisconsin, Minnesota, Iowa and Illinois). Mission Statement: Accelerated Genetics Young Producer Program is designed to help producers develop friendships, build leadership qualities and strengthen communication skills through an educational, supportive network in a fun environment.
