Interim Update: American Angus Association Curly Calf Syndrome (10/6/08)

This is an interim update from the Board of Directors concerning the status of Curly Calf Syndrome. We ask that you check this website for further reports on the subject.
  • Dr. Beever and Dr. Steffen continue to work on the issue and we will announce their findings on this website as soon as they become available.
  • President Paul Hill and the Board have named a special four-member committee of the Board to work on the development of a specific policy for the continued and prospective registry of animals to have in place as soon as Dr. Beever develops a test for suspect carriers of the gene. Currently, it is our hope that the Special Committee will make a report to the full Board within the next seven to ten days that the full Board can weigh and pass on in short order.
  • Our desire would be to publish, as soon as possible, the guidelines the Board will follow in formalizing a policy as soon as a test is available. These guidelines would hopefully address some of the concerns and rumors, including ones being circulated about the status of currently registered animals.
  • We again want to acknowledge and to thank those members who have voluntarily provided information to the Association in response to our prior notices on this subject. That information has allowed us to move rapidly on the matter. Once again, please contact Don Laughlin, Director of Member Services, at 816.383.5140 or dlaughlin@angus.org with any information you have or come across in the future.
  • Lastly, we intend to provide additional interim updates on this website whenever we have significant information we can report. Thank you for your interest and patience as we move through this process.
